Compassionate Bed Bug Treatment for Terminally Ill Client in Bournemouth

At Eradicontrol, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond, especially when others won’t. One particularly heart-rending case involved a terminally ill gentleman in Bournemouth who was virtually housebound. His living conditions had deteriorated due to severe bed bug and fruit fly infestations. No other company was willing to assist him, and he couldn’t afford full-price services. Terri stepped in.

The Situation
The client had limited mobility and had to organise being out of the property for four hours to allow for treatment. He was visibly distressed and overwhelmed. Upon inspection, the flat revealed a serious infestation of bed bugs. The attached photos show pillows saturated with bed bug excrement – dark, ink-like stains created by digested blood. These markings are a telltale sign of long-standing and widespread infestation, typically found near places where bed bugs feed and hide.
Terri also discovered fruit flies breeding in damp cloths that had slipped behind the washing machine, contributing to the client’s discomfort and health risk.
Our Response
Recognising the urgency and compassion required, Eradicontrol treated the property for bed bugs at a heavily reduced rate. Terri also took the time to tidy and search the flat, locating and removing the source of the fruit fly problem.
The initial treatment was thorough, targeting all harbourage points and using a residual spray safe for use in domestic environments. Due to the psychological stress the infestation caused, the client requested a follow-up treatment three weeks later, even though no new live activity was detected. Eradicontrol honoured this request at no extra charge.
Ongoing Support
Terri followed up with weekly calls and texts over the following six weeks to reassure the client and ensure peace of mind. No further signs of bed bugs were found. The emotional and mental relief this brought to the client was profound.
About Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are nocturnal, blood-feeding insects that hide in cracks and crevices close to where people sleep. Their faeces – the dark stains seen on the client’s pillows – are digested blood and a clear indicator of infestation. Bed bug bites often lead to itchy welts and allergic reactions, and infestations can severely impact mental health.
The Result
This case wasn’t just a pest control job – it was an act of humanity. Eradicontrol’s empathetic and thorough approach transformed the living conditions for a man in his final months and provided him with much-needed dignity and comfort.
